We’ll know more when Gearbox makes their official announcements at E3. A revisit to looting could also mean ruining it, and that would be unfortunate indeed. However, a revisit to Borderlands might also mean a revisit to the best loot system the series has known – one that didn’t rely on Golden Key microtransactions. The only thing a remaster could really bring back is renewed interest in multiplayer, just as it did for Dark Souls: Remastered. ACTION-ADVENTURE Borderlands: Game Of The Year Edition Review Nick Holliday ApScore: 9/10 First-Person Shooter RPG MULTIPLAYER The remaster gives the First-Person Shooter RPG hybrid a good tidy up while still keeping it’s classic overall look and feel. Later titles featured a woefully uneven looting system with bosses sometimes dropping only greens, and chests made almost entirely useless. As for loot mechanics, the first Borderlands by far had the best. Sitting the trio of games in a line, they don’t look that much different from one another, mostly due to the cell-shaded and desolate design of the series. It was only later portions of the game that hinted at the villainous Commandant Steele, but even she was unceremoniously exploded by a big monster. The villain for the majority of the game was whatever entity reared its head waiting to have it blown off. Of course, there are the gorgeous updated graphics, but developers Gearbox and Blind Squirrel Games added some. Unlike the games that followed it, Borderlands never tried to be more than it was. Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition brings what one would expect from a remaster. Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition remastered comes with the first Borderlands game and all four DLC packs including The Zombie Island of Doctor Ned, Mad Moxxis Underdome Riot, The Secret. Regardless of Borderlands 3 status or nonstatus at E3, Borderlands still holds up remarkably well. ![]() Gearbox, and the Borderlands series in general, are known for being cheeky, and this would be in line with what we could expect from both. It’s entirely possible that we might find an E3 announcement for Borderlands 4 (Technically) or something similarly playful.
